Dr. Shakyryn Napier

Dr. Shakyryn Napier, DHSc, RN, CPN, NEA-BC, LSSYB, is a transformative healthcare executive and lifelong learner with over 20 years of expertise specializing in pediatric care and organizational leadership. She currently serves as the Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services at UPMC Horizon and Jameson. In this executive capacity, Dr. Napier aligns clinical quality with organizational growth, focusing heavily on advancing patient outcomes, optimizing nursing practices, and fostering workforce development.
Prior to joining UPMC, Dr. Napier dedicated over 16 years to Cook Children's Health Care System in Fort Worth, Texas. During her tenure, she served as the Heart Center Director and the Director of Med-Surg and Wound Care. As Director of Med-Surg and Wound Care, she managed financial performance, budgets, and operations for four inpatient units comprising 105 beds and approximately 165 staff members, while overseeing 12 direct reports, including eight Nurse Managers. Earlier at Cook Children's, she was a Nurse Manager leading a 50-person team on a 40-bed surgical, orthopedic, and trauma unit, where she collaboratively trained and mentored new nursing leaders.
Dr. Napier’s extensive clinical foundation includes critical roles such as Team Leader and Registered Nurse for the ED and Urgent Care Center at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where she supervised 15 direct reports and championed patient-centered care. Her early nursing career spans vital registered nurse positions at Arlington Memorial Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital, and Sharon Regional Hospital dating back to 1999.
